Queen Mary University London Case Study
Queen Mary University of London is an established university in London's vibrant East End committed to high-quality teaching and research.
The university is one of the UK's leading research-focused higher education institutions, covering a wide range of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, law, medicine and dentistry, and science and engineering.
The university has over 25,000 students, close to 4,500 members of staff and an annual turnover of £462m.
The Challenge:
Keeping students connected while on campus is a priority for Queen Mary University of London. Students and staff need access to their mobile devices to stay updated and communicate with each other.
In order to achieve this goal, the university wanted to allow students to charge their smartphones and tablets whilst on campus. This would also reduce ‘low battery anxiety’ and improve the overall on-campus experience.
The Solution:
ChargeBox has provided Queen Mary University of London with 20 ChargeBox FAST stations across its estate, delivering installation and a total care support package.
The ChargeBox FAST is a free standing, six locker station that charges smartphones and tablets. This station provides a world class charging service which is stress free and easy to use and it also offers unrivalled safety and security to its users.
Business Benefits:
ChargeBox charging stations alleviate ‘low battery anxiety’ as students can stay connected whilst on campus, which leads to increased student satisfaction, positively impacting the National Student Survey results.
The solution also increases staff productivity as they no longer have to deal with charging requests. ChargeBox also provides a secure and safe environment for students to charge their devices. This in turn reduces the uncontrolled use of sockets which can result in health and safety risks on campus.
Finally, the stations facilitate online engagement and provide an opportunity for the University to promote its brand via the vinyl wrap and the LCD display panel, whilst being very quick and easy to install.
Since installation in July 2019 to the end of November 2019, 24,716 charges have been completed with an average connection time of 32 minutes. This equates to 13,290 hours of charging!

Who else is ChargeBox charging?
I am delighted we have been able to have ChargeBox provide on-campus charging facilities for our students. The telemetries are excellent, and we see high levels of usage as students recharge devices throughout the day. The team at ChargeBox have been a pleasure to work with and their products have enabled us to avoid expensive installation of power outlets in listed buildings around our estate.
